"The acute median lethal dose (LD50) of metaldehyde varies from 60 to 1000 mg/kg bodyweight for dogs (Buck and others 1976, Largue and others 1996, Osweiler 1996, Campbell 2000, Puschner 2001, Roder 2001). Thus, a 20 kg dog consuming 24 to 400 granules of 5 per cent would reach the LD50."
"Sixteen of 18 dogs were exposed to the toxin in urban districts. In 13 dogs, the intoxication occurred after the baits were distributed at the owner’s own premises. Four dogs were intoxicated after invading the owner’s storage room and consuming from a sac of metaldehyde stored there. In only one dog, the owners were unaware of the exposure to the toxin."
